Clean out the prefetch folder

Windows XP uses a system called 'prefetch' to organize and preload some of the data necessary for commonly used applications and files. A folder called prefetch is used to store the information the operating system needs to carry out this operation. After several months of use, the prefetch folder may become quite overloaded with older references to software and files that may no longer be in use. It's a good idea to manually empty the older files out of the prefetch folder every few months or so.To do this: Navigate to 'c:\windows\prefetch' and delete all .PF files that are older than a week or two.

Make your Blackberry even more addictive

While using Yahoo! Messenger on a Blackberry is not new, a recent demo I got from the mobile team was enough to merit a blog mention. If you have a Blackberry smartphone, or are considering getting one, you’ll get to experience the best mobile version of Yahoo! Messenger that’s out there.
Most mobile phone users use the mobile web version of Yahoo! Messenger by visiting http://m.yahoo.com/ through their phone’s web browser. But on select devices, like a Blackberry, a more robust, downloadable application is available that includes some key extras like the ability to notify you when new IMs come in, even if you’re doing something else on the phone. The Blackberry version also offers graphical emoticons, and the ever-popular Buzz feature.
If you have a Blackberry, there are a couple of ways to get Yahoo! Messenger. Visit the Yahoo! Messenger download page on the Blackberry site (scroll to the bottom and click the Download button), or on your Blackberry, select the Internet Browser icon on the homepage and navigate to http://www.blackberry.com/yahoodownload.
It’s free to download Yahoo! Messenger and use it on your Blackberry, but note that carrier airtime, usage fees and other taxes may apply. Check the details of your Blackberry’s data plan with your mobile provider. Yahoo! Messenger is available for the following Blackberry devices: BlackBerry® 7100, 7200, 7500, 7700, 8700 and 8800 series, BlackBerry® Pearl™, and BlackBerry® Curve™. Yahoo! Messenger is not available for Blackberry users on AT&T.

Faster, Better Defragging: IObit SmartDefrag

If you are looking for a better way to defrag your drives, without paying for commercial software, I have a great suggestion: IObit SmartDefrag. The defragger that comes with Windows is notoriously slow, gets hung up easily, and is difficult to schedule. SmartDefrag is fast and easy to use. It works in the background using few system resources to keep your hard drive optimized.

Sharing Files, Folders and Drives on a Network

When we have multiple hard drives, multiple hard drive partitions, and external hard drives hooked up to our Windows computers, each appears in Windows Explorer and in most programs as a “drive” and is assigned a letter — like C:, D:, E:, etc.
When you add an internal drive that is already formatted (maybe it came from your old computer) into an existing PC, you can see each partition on it (at least those partitions that are formatted in ways that Windows can recognize) as a drive with its own letter.
When we buy a complete external drive, it is ready to use — it has already been formatted and Windows recognizes it immediately.
But, what if we want any of these drives to be accessable by another computer on our home network? That’s when we have to use the features of Windows File and Printer Sharing.

Color Options - the Main Reason of Dell Inspiron Delays

The color options are the main source of shipping delays on the new lineup of the Dell Inspiron notebooks, according to the post published on the PC maker’s Direct2Dell official weblog.
“Basic colors like black are easier to produce. Premium colors and finishes like we use on the Inspiron models introduce complexity into the process, and that’s holding things up,” the post on Direct2Dell says.
